FaceTime Lures SurfControl Customers with More for Less
Secure Web gateway visionary offers new alternatives for managing today's
Internet
BELMONT, CALIF. - March 26, 2008 - FaceTime Communications, the leading
provider of solutions that secure Web and unified communications (UC) in the
enterprise, today announced a new offer for customers looking to renew their
Web filtering subscriptions currently held with SurfControl, Websense and other
competing providers. Renewing instead with FaceTime and upgrading to the
Unified Security Gateway (USG) appliance affords customers a higher value
solution by providing Web filtering combined with complete Web security,
Instant messaging management, P2P control, UC, and gateway anti-malware in a
single platform.
"We're hearing from SurfControl customers that they are being asked to upgrade
to a Websense product, often at an increased price," said Frank Cabri, vice
president of marketing and product management for FaceTime. "We're providing
SurfControl, Websense and other Web filtering customers a higher value
alterative that extends their Web filtering budget to also secure and manage
Web 2.0, social networks, instant messaging, Skype and other real-time
applications."
Analyst experts indicate that a Secure Web Gateway must filter unwanted
software and malware from user-initiated Web and Internet traffic and enforce
corporate and regulatory policy compliance. To achieve this goal, secure Web
gateways must, at a minimum, include URL filtering, malicious-code detection
and filtering, and application controls for popular Web-based applications such
as instant messaging (IM) and Skype.
This program extends a company's Web or URL filtering budget to include this
much-needed security and management of real-time communications that are
proliferating throughout enterprise networks. In addition, FaceTime's solution
provides deep compliance protection to meet regulatory and corporate
requirements, including logging, archiving and easy retrieval of the content of
instant messages and their attachments over both public IM networks and
Enterprise IM and Unified Communications platforms, as well as Web conferencing
text conversations. More information about receiving a quote for the upgrade is

According to the 2007 survey Greynets in the Enterprise: Third Annual Survey of
Trends, Attitudes and Impact, conducted by NewDiligence Research and
commissioned by FaceTime, 87 percent of IT managers believe their network
firewalls are controlling and securing the instant messaging traffic traversing
their networks, and 44 percent believe that desktop firewalls will do the job.

"The truth is, real-time communications protocols that are at the root of the
new Internet are notorious for circumventing legacy Internet firewall
technology, and simple URL filtering isn't enough," said Cabri. "These
protocols behave differently than standard HTTP traffic, requiring more
specific security and management controls to enable their productive use while
insuring that the network is protected against inbound threats as well as
outbound information leakage."
About FaceTime's Unified Security Gateway
The FaceTime Unified Security Gateway (USG) is a secure Web gateway appliance
that enables enterprises to control real-time communications. USG integrates
management, security and compliance of Web communications, consumer-driven
greynet applications such as public IM, Skype and P2P, and enterprise-class
Unified Communications suites such as Microsoft's Office Communications Server
and IBM Lotus Sametime. From a single platform, organizations can enable and
enforce safe and productive use of these applications and protect the network
against inbound malware, mitigate information leakage risks, and insure
corporate, regulatory and e-discovery needs are met.
The USG integrates gateway malware protection and Web filtering with FaceTime's
best-in-class IM hygiene and archiving, in a purpose-built, hardened appliance.
With this single point of control, organizations can gain complete visibility
of all Internet communications and reduce total cost of ownership using a
simpler solution that is easily administered by the IT staff.
The USG provides:
-
Single point of control - for all web and real-time communications lowers
operational costs and simplifies administration
-
Better value - extend existing budget to cover both URL filtering and emerging
applications such as IM, P2P and Skype
-
Security and performance - validated by respected industry publications and
test labs, only FaceTime provides a platform that combines the highest efficacy
with fastest performance.
-
Compliance - log, archive and retrieve IM, file transfers and other activity to
meet regulatory and e-Discovery requirements
