Leading Industry Analyst Firm Positions FaceTime in Visionaries Quadrant of Secure Web Gateway Report
Inaugural Magic Quadrant establishes marketplace
FOSTER CITY, CALIF. - June 13, 2007 - FaceTime Communications, the
leading provider of solutions for securing and managing IM, P2P and Web-based
greynets in the enterprise, today announced that Gartner has placed FaceTime in
the Visionaries Quadrant for the secure Web gateway market. The Gartner Magic
Quadrant provides guidance for organizations that are seeking to purchase,
replace or upgrade their Web security solutions.
Gartner defines the new secure Web gateway market as "a solution that filters
unwanted software/malware from user-initiated Web/Internet traffic and enforces
corporate and regulatory policy compliance." Peter Firstbrook, Arabella
Hallawell and Lawrence Orans introduced the new secure Web gateway category in
March 2007, noting that enterprises increasingly demand an all-inclusive secure
Web gateway solution to protect Web-connected PCs from infection, and to
enforce compliance requirements.
Several factors are driving the market for secure Web gateways, according to
FaceTime. Real-time consumer applications such as IM, Web conferencing and P2P
file sharing applications are making the transition to the workplace, while at
the same time organizations are under stricter scrutiny regarding
electronically stored information (ESI). According to new Federal Rules for
Civil Procedure that went into effect on Dec. 1, 2006, all electronically
stored information is now discoverable in a litigious event.
Whereas traditional Web filtering is necessary for all enterprise networks, it
is not sufficient for securing the new Internet. For IT and Security managers,
combining security and compliance for real-time applications with more
traditional Web filtering solutions results in lower total cost of ownership.
With a single security and compliance solution, all communications using the
Web gateway can be secured against inbound threats, protected from outbound
information leakage and regulatory and corporate compliance can be insured.
"We believe Gartner's evaluation of the Secure Web gateway market acknowledges
that the Internet has, in fact, changed, and it will encourage enterprises to
think about managing this new class of Internet applications," said Kailash
Ambwani, president and CEO of FaceTime Communications. "Today's workforce uses
the internet for more than email and Web browsing. Enterprise IT departments
are seeing that URL filtering isn't sufficient for the new real-time internet.
They need to detect, manage and secure the networked applications that make
their workforce more productive."
