Press Release
FaceTime Protects Customers Against Storm Worm
FOSTER CITY, CALIF. - January 31, 2007 - FaceTime Communications, the
leading provider of solutions for securing and managing IM, P2P and Web-based
greynets, today announced its customers are protected against the "Storm Worm"
currently propagating through the Internet. Companies that use FaceTime
Enterprise Edition and IMAuditor and have auto-update features activated are
automatically protected against this threat.
The Storm Worm (w.32.Storm.Worm) began propagating through the Internet in mid-January
via an email that carries the subject line "230 dead as storm batters
Europe," promising news of a real-life storm that was sweeping across central
Europe at the time. Storm is a Trojan with an executable attachment that causes
the users PC to become part of a botnet.
Real-Time Guardian, FaceTime's perimeter gateway appliance, provides protection
against the spread of malware including the Storm Worm and provides the ability
to identify and remediate any infected endpoints.
Detailed information about the worm including how it spreads, the malware
payload it carries and its stealth tactics is available from FaceTime Security
Lab's Spyware Guide web site at

FaceTime recommends that its customers activate the Day Zero Defense System
within IMAuditor. The system utilizes anomaly detection techniques to analyze
malicious code against normal behavior. FaceTime RTGuardian customers are
automatically protected if they have auto update features enabled. FaceTime's
X-Cleaner customers (formerly XBlock) should download the latest update and
scan their PC for the worm.
