Press Release
FaceTime Delivers Total Security and Control for Enterprise Internet Use
Unifies best-of-breed security and management of greynet applications with
industry-leading Web filtering through a single access point
FOSTER CITY, CALIF. - November 14, 2006 - FaceTime Communications, the
leading provider of solutions for securing and managing greynets, today
announced FaceTime Internet Security Edition to provide enterprises with total
security and control over Web and real-time Internet communications. By
combining core gateway security capabilities such as Web filtering and
anti-spyware with security for today's greynet applications on a single
platform with common policy and management, FaceTime Internet Security Edition
reduces complexity and increases efficiency of the enterprise security
infrastructure to reduce overall total cost of ownership.
FaceTime Internet Security Edition is purpose-built to enable the safe and
productive use of more than one hundred greynet applications including instant
messaging (IM), Web conferencing, peer-to-peer file sharing and Skype™.
Additionally, it allows enterprises to implement security and control for Web
traffic and protect against malware that can spread via the Web and other
greynet channels. With FaceTime Internet Security Edition, enterprises can
implement powerful policies that detect, secure and manage real-time
collaborative applications while preventing inbound threats, minimizing
information leakage and controlling employee Internet use.
"The internet applications used on our network today are far different than a
few years ago," said Jimmy Daniels, computer programmer for the West Virginia
Department of Education. "With a growing faculty and student population, we
rely on FaceTime Internet Security Edition to show us what people are doing on
the network and to control how they can use the Internet. Our network hasn't
been this clean in years."
Security Exposure is Increasing with Greynet Use
Greynets - real-time communication applications that are often brought in the
back door by employees - use highly evasive techniques to circumvent the
network security infrastructure designed primarily for email and
protocol-conforming Web traffic. As a result, they pose myriad network and
information security risks because they provide new vectors for malware,
intellectual property loss, identity theft and compliance risks. Nonetheless,
employees find the productivity benefits of these applications compelling. In
fact, 83 percent of all employees are using one or more of these applications,
according to a recent survey by NewDilligence and FaceTime, November 2006.
Threats borne by greynet applications have a high cost to the organization;
eighty one percent of IT managers reported security incidents due to IM or
other greynets, costing companies an estimated $130,000 per year on average. ("Employee
Use of Greynets: Second Annual Survey of Trends, Attitudes and Impact" report
available at http://www.facetime.com/greynetresearch)
"Organizations realize that having multiple layers of protection is the only
way to protect against the many threats that lurk in the shadows when people
use the Web," said Mark Levitt, vice president for Collaborative Computing and
the Enterprise Workplace at IDC. "Building on FaceTime's expertise in enabling
instant messaging to be used safely and securely in the workplace, FaceTime
Internet Security Edition is designed to enable workers to use the Web for
online meetings, file sharing, voice calls and other business purposes in a
safe and productive manner."
Total Control for Web and Real-time Communications
For IT and information security managers, FaceTime Internet Security Edition
provides best-of-breed greynet security backed by FaceTime Security Labs,
combined with San Jose, Calif.-based Secure Computing's industry-leading
SmartFilter™ Web filtering. FaceTime Internet Security Edition operates on a
purpose-built appliance platform designed to detect and interpret all Internet
activity with zero latency. Enterprises can manage employee use of all Internet
channels—both greynets and the Web—with a single solution using unified policy
management.
FaceTime Internet Security Edition is a unified security solution that
includes:
-
RTGuardian — next generation perimeter security solution for managing Web
filtering, securing instant messaging, blocking P2P usage and preventing the
spread of spyware and adware at the Internet gateway
-
Greynet Enterprise Manager (GEM) — a centralized management, reporting and
control server in the LAN that also enables organizations to perform targeted
remediation and inoculation on infected end points
-
FaceTime Security Labs updates - automatic updates and countermeasures to the
latest malware threats from FaceTime's threat research and remediation division
FaceTime's patent-pending targeted remediation feature performs policy-based
remediation on endpoints infected with spyware, adware, rootkits, and other
malware without deploying client software. Based on detections from perimeter
RTGuardian appliances, GEM initiates targeted scans and remediation of any
managed PC or group of PCs according to policies set by the network
administrator. Its clientless architecture ensures efficient cleaning and
inoculation of endpoints to prevent future infections, increasing end-user
productivity and reducing IT costs.
Comprehensive, real-time reporting enables security managers to obtain
immediate visibility over Internet and real-time communications usage on the
network, and to easily create a variety of pre-defined as well as custom
reports and schedule their delivery to management for further review.
With FaceTime Internet Security Edition, organizations can:
-
Reduce operational expenses by consolidating disparate Internet security
solutions into a single unified solution that is easier to deploy and maintain
-
Improve decision-making about security issues and Internet usage through
integrated real-time reporting and monitoring and compatibility with leading
third-party reporting applications
-
Trigger targeted, clientless remediation process for malware on infected
endpoints using Microsoft sanctioned technologies to efficiently clean and
inoculate PCs
-
Reduce administrative time with centralized enforcement of all Internet usage
over Web, IM, P2P, and other greynet channels
-
Monitor and control access to inappropriate Web sites that can waste company
resources, create legal liability, and consume bandwidth required for business
critical applications.
-
Block malware at the Internet gateway before it can impact the business
"Most organizations want a simpler and more unified way to manage employee use
of all Internet communications," said Frank Cabri, vice president of marketing
at FaceTime Communications. "Internet Security Edition provides the reporting,
visibility and control so corporate acceptable use policies can be easily
mapped to the network and enforced according to the unique needs of the
business."
Pricing and Availability
FaceTime Internet Security Edition starts at $7,125 and is available from
FaceTime and its authorized distributors and partners worldwide on November 30,
2006. For more information visit www.facetime.com.
