FaceTime Appoints Security Luminary, Dr. Taher Elgamal, to its Board of Directors
Pioneer of the Original Public Key Cryptography and Digital Signature Standard Joins FaceTime to Help Expand Security Leadership
FOSTER CITY, CA - February 15, 2005 - Furthering its leadership position as the premier provider of solutions that secure, manage, and extend instant messaging (IM) and peer-to-peer (P2P) applications, FaceTime today announced that it has appointed one of the most coveted security experts in the industry, Dr. Taher Elgamal, to its Board of Directors.
Dr. Elgamal was chief scientist at Netscape Communications where he pioneered SSL, the standard for web security. Prior to Netscape, Dr. Elgamal was the director of Engineering at RSA Data Security, Inc. While there, he built and ran the engineering department that developed the industry standard RSA cryptographic toolkits. He received his Masters and PhD degrees in Computer Science from Stanford University. Most recently, Dr. Elgamal founded Securify, Inc., a leading provider of network security infrastructure, where he serves as chief technology officer and member of the Board of Directors.
"We are excited to add such a coveted security expert to our Board of Directors," said Kailash Ambwani, president and CEO of FaceTime Communications. "Dr. Elgamal brings to our Board over 20 years of in-depth knowledge and development expertise including publishing critical security technologies such as cryptography and SSL. His appointment further deepens FaceTime's commitment to securing the network against the growing number of threats facing today's business environment.
A recognized leader in the information security industry, Dr. Elgamal has made numerous contributions to the industry including development of the original public key cryptography and digital signature technology and the Elgamal cryptography technology later adopted by NIST as the digital signature standard (DSS). In addition to his responsibilities at Securify, Dr. Elgamal serves on the board of directors of RSA Securities, Hifn, Phoenix Technologies and Tumbleweed.
"I am pleased to join FaceTime's Board and associate myself with the leader in security for IM and P2P communications," said Dr. Taher Elgamal. "I look forward to helping FaceTime identify new opportunities and broaden their service offerings."
