FaceTime to Support IBM Portal Solution
FaceTime IM Presence Manager to Deliver Aggregated Instant Messaging Network
Presence to WebSphere Portal
FOSTER CITY, Calif.-November 5, 2003 -- Furthering its leadership as the premier
provider of security, management and control solutions for instant messaging
(IM) and other forms of real-time communications in the enterprise, FaceTime
Communications today announced it will integrate the FaceTime IM Presence
Manager with IBM WebSphere Portal. This announcement was made in conjunction
with the launch of IBM Lotus Workplace.
IBM WebSphere Portal enables users to detect individual or project group
availabilities and engage in real-time communication within a multitude of
shared business applications and processes. The integration of IM Presence
Manager with IBM WebSphere extends the portal's Lotus IM-enabled presence
capabilities to interconnect with the enterprise and public IM networks. By
delivering the ability to utilize multi-network communications with
sophisticated security and management capabilities, FaceTime allows businesses
to benefit from the universal reach of customers, partners and fellow employees
for efficient and close-knit collaboration in a highly configurable and
controlled environment.
"FaceTime and IBM have many joint enterprise customers utilizing our IM
management and security solutions with the IBM Lotus Sametime instant messaging
network, and this new alliance with IBM builds upon our success as the latest
in a series of partnerships that aim to deliver on the promise of the real-time
enterprise through collaborative, presence-enabled applications," said
FaceTime's vice president of products and chief technology officer, Jonathan
Christensen. "Integrating our IM Presence Manager into IBM WebSphere Portal
gives enterprises the sophisticated security and management capabilities they
need to ensure they're protected as customers, partners and employees are
allowed to communicate in real time without any network limitations."
IM Presence Manager enables presence to be embedded in enterprise workflow
applications such as Web-based portals. It provides presence and availability
management for registered users, presence aggregation for communities of
related users, and presence-based decision making for business process
workflows such as connecting buyers and sellers together for customer service.
IM Presence Manager builds on IM Director to provide enterprise-class
scalability and reliability. Embedding presence in business applications
enables benefits such as increased process velocity resulting in productivity
gains and cost effectiveness for the enterprise.
FaceTime's enterprise IM management suite of solutions can enable IT
organizations to apply standard business use policies to all diverse methods of
real-time communications on any public, private or enterprise network,
including centralized IT management, control, security, and the ability to
extend presence into business process workflow applications.
