A Letter from FaceTime and AOL
In the past week or so you may have heard about AOL's decision to end-of-life and transition its AIM® Enterprise Gateway product. We are writing this note to further clarify the relationship between FaceTime Communications (FaceTime) and America Online, Inc. (AOL).
As you probably know, AOL and FaceTime have been working together since 2002 to address the needs of AIM users in enterprises. Today, FaceTime and AOL are working together on multiple fronts, including FaceTime's participation in AOL's Certified Partner Program and as a reseller of AOL® Messaging Solutions.
In April of this year, FaceTime became an AIM® Certified Application Partner, and AOL certified FaceTime's IM DirectorTM and
IMAuditorTM products to connect to the AIM network.
- Under the AIM Certified Application Partner Program, FaceTime offers:
Certified access to the AIM network through IMAuditor and IM Director, enabling users of these products presence and integration with the AIM network within a context of added privacy protection and network integrity for IT network infrastructures.
- FaceTime is also a reseller of AIM Identity Services. These services:
Allow companies to match AIM screen names with corporate e-mail addresses for greater professionalism and preservation of corporate identity;
Enable companies to provision their AIM users with digital certificates supporting encrypted communications with other security-enabled AIM users; and
Are available in "On premises" or "Hosted" editions, which respectively allow companies to control AIM authentication from the corporate user store, or quickly activate domain name services without requiring special software installations on company premises.
Given AOL's and FaceTime's emphasis on instant messaging solutions that extend the productivity of "at work" user audiences, the companies intend to continue to work aggressively together to offer best of breed services and products.
If FaceTime can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to contact your FaceTime sales representative or Christopher Dean personally.
Sincerely,
Christopher Dean
